Treat the earth well. It was not given to you by your parents, it was loaned to you by your children. We do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children.

Morning Girl

Imagine you live on a far away, remote Caribbean island 400 years ago. You are curious to know what you look like, however, there are no mirrors, no glass, no cameras, no pencils. Think of three ways you might try to find out how you look.

Why Move?

This may seem like a simple question this week, but I want you to think deeply about the answer and provide an example. Talk to your parents or another adult about these questions before posting your reply. Stretch your thinking.

Why do people move?
Why do people leave home?

Stretch It

This week, we've been talking about parts of speech: nouns, adjectives, verbs, adverbs, and prepositional phrases. Stretch It? What's that? Take a simple sentence and make it a better sentence by adding words to it. Make a great sentence with lots of detail. Be sure your sentence makes sense. You don't want to stretch it so much that it doesn't make sense! Pay attention to grammar, capitalization, spelling, and punctuation. Try using words from all of the parts of speech we practiced this week. Here's an example:

She had to explain it.

Example: Jenny was asked to explain math to her little sister, Sue.

Here are your two sentences to stretch:

He ate it.

It scared me.

Oceans

Over the past several weeks, we've been studying oceans. We've learned all kinds of new information. In your post this week, describe three things you've learned about oceans so far. One of the skills we've been talking about in writing is elaboration. Instead of saying "I've learned about currents," tell me/us what's exciting about currents? Do you have a new fact to share? Explain your thinking so it's deep like the ocean! :-)

Tangerine

We are reading Tangerine by Edward Bloor in class. Choose three words that could be used to describe Paul. Then, use two details from the story to support each of the words you chose that describe him.
